The Chosen People: Rebekah

Rebekah, chosen by God to be Isaac’s wife, is sharp and strategic. She’s the mother of twins Jacob and Esau, future leaders of two nations. While she views Isaac as simple, she overlooks the strength of his faith, relying instead on her schemes to control outcomes. Always thinking ahead, her wit is both her gift and her blind spot.

Rebekah’s story reminds us of the tension between control and trust. She was a woman of action, often scheming to bring about her vision of how things should be, especially with her sons, Jacob and Esau. Yet, in her desire to control outcomes, she overlooked the power of faith and trust in God's plan.

In our own lives, we often fall into the same trap. We can be tempted to take matters into our own hands, believing that our plans and strategies are best. However, Rebekah’s story encourages us to pause and ask ourselves: Are we trusting God’s greater plan, or are we trying to manipulate events to fit our own vision?

Faith doesn’t always require us to take control; sometimes it asks us to surrender and trust in the simplicity of God's guidance. By letting go and embracing faith, we can experience peace, knowing that God's plans are always greater than our own. Rebekah’s journey shows us that true wisdom comes not from being a few steps ahead, but from trusting that God is already there, preparing the way.
