Psalm 145:15
What do we reach for when we’re desperate? In 1 Samuel 21, David arrives in Nob hungry, frightened, and alone. Instead of leaning into trust, he lies to the priest and takes holy bread meant only for the priests. He also retrieves Goliath’s sword—grasping for a symbol of past victory. David, the man after God’s own heart, shows us something deeply human: when fear speaks louder than faith, even the faithful can falter. We may not stand in a sanctuary with a sword in hand, but we face our own crossroads of fear and faith. In seasons of uncertainty, it’s tempting to rely on half-truths, old victories, or quick fixes. But God invites us to bring our hunger to Him honestly. He knows our needs before we ask. When fear presses in, we don’t need to grab what looks powerful—we need to remember Who is powerful.
