Psalm 113:7–8
Have you ever had a dream that felt holy, only to have God say no? David’s desire to build a temple for the Lord was sincere and noble. But God responded not with a blueprint, but with a covenant—a promise that David’s house, not his project, would endure forever. It’s a reminder that God’s plans aren’t dependent on our efforts, but on His grace. While David longed to give something to God, God gave something greater to David: the promise of a lasting kingdom, ultimately fulfilled in the Messiah. We often strive to prove our devotion by doing more, achieving more, building more. But God doesn’t dwell in what we construct—He inhabits hearts that trust Him. When our plans shift or collapse, God’s promises remain. He builds our legacy not through perfection, but through surrender. Let go of control today. God’s blessing may look different than your dream—but it will always be better.
