Saul: The Conqueror

Saul rescues Israel and claims the crown—but is this God’s will or man’s ambition?

Psalm 28:7
What happens when we confuse God’s blessing with our desires? Saul’s bold rescue of Jabesh-Gilead wins him praise and cements his kingship. On the surface, everything seems to fall into place. But beneath the victory is a deeper question: was this God’s chosen deliverer, or a man chosen by the people, now trying to prove his worth? Saul succeeds—but the foundation is shaky. Power earned in human strength often leads to pride, which rarely bows to God. Today, we also face this tension. We chase good things—leadership, influence, security—but forget to ask if they’re God’s things. Like Saul, we can win battles and still be out of step with God. But if we learn to wait on Him, trust His timing, and let Him lead, we find strength that doesn’t depend on applause or achievement. In uncertain times, faithfulness is the truest measure of success.
