James 4:6
Have you ever gotten exactly what you asked for—only to realize it wasn’t what you truly needed? The Israelites begged for a king, and God gave them Saul. He looked the part—tall, impressive, strong. But when the time came to lead, Saul hid. His fear and insecurity exposed the danger of desiring human strength over divine wisdom. Sometimes, God allows us to have what we want, not as a reward, but as a lesson in trust and humility. Saul’s story reminds us how easily pride and fear can coexist. He wanted the crown but feared its weight. Like Saul, we can crave influence yet feel unworthy. The key isn’t pretending we’re strong—it’s admitting we’re not. As James 4:6 reminds us, God favors the humble. Today, may we resist the temptation of self-importance and ask for hearts that seek God’s glory over our own. He honors those who trust Him more than themselves.
